Safety Tips & Etiquette
Version 1.0 · Last updated: July 2026
At Kythr, we are committed to fostering a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for people to meet and do things together nearby. Meeting new people is exciting, but always prioritize safety when interacting with someone new. Use your best judgment and follow these safety tips and etiquette guidelines to ensure a great experience.
1. Before Joining an Activity
- Always meet in public. Make sure you meet in a public, well-lit place with other people around.
- Inform someone you trust. Share details of your activity, location, and expected return time with a friend or family member.
- Keep communications on Kythr. Use the in-app chat for all activity-related communication. It keeps your conversations in one place and creates a record if something goes wrong.
- Be in control of your own transport. Arrange reliable transport to and from the activity, so you are in full control and can leave at any time if needed.
- Understand what to expect. Review the activity details — the place, time, and what is involved — and be aware of the venue and any rules or etiquette before you go.
2. During the Activity
Personal safety
- Stay aware. Keep your belongings and drinks in sight at all times, and be mindful of your alcohol consumption to remain alert.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels off, excuse yourself and leave. Your safety is the top priority.
- Seek help if needed. If you feel unsafe, tell venue staff, local authorities, or a trusted contact immediately.
Etiquette & conduct
- Respect others. Keep conversations inclusive and respectful, and be mindful of sensitive topics.
- Embrace diversity. Kythr brings together people from all walks of life. Appreciate different perspectives and backgrounds.
- Handle your own costs. Be ready to cover your share of any expenses, including any tip. Kythr does not handle payments between users.
3. After the Activity
Continued interaction
- Stay connected safely. Use Kythr to continue conversations, and share personal details only with people you trust.
- Report concerns. If you experience inappropriate or unsafe behavior, report it through the app. Reports are confidential and help keep the community safe.
Transportation safety
- Avoid impaired driving. Arrange alternative transport if you have consumed alcohol or other substances.
- Be cautious with rides. Avoid accepting rides from people you have just met, especially if they have been drinking.
4. Blocking and Reporting Users
- Block for safety. Use the block feature to prevent unwanted contact. Once blocked, a user can no longer see your profile or contact you.
- Report serious concerns. Blocking a user does not automatically report their behavior. If someone violates our Community Guidelines, submit a report through the app.
- Respectful use. Misuse of the block feature to disrupt others' experiences is not allowed.
5. Tips for Participating in Activities
- Arrive on time. Respect other people's time by being punctual.
- Communicate your needs. For a food-related activity, let the organizer know about allergies or dietary restrictions.
- Be present. Stay engaged in conversations and be mindful of your phone use to foster real connections.
6. Emergency Situations
- Reach out for help. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services. Familiarize yourself with the emergency numbers for the area before participating in activities.
- Report incidents. If you encounter harmful behavior, report it immediately through the app.
7. Online Safety
- Never send money or share financial information. Never send money to someone you met on Kythr, even if they claim to be in an emergency. Be cautious of investment opportunities or requests to open accounts. If someone asks for money, report them immediately.
- Protect your personal information. Avoid sharing sensitive details such as your home or work address, daily routines, or financial information. If you have children, limit information about them in public profiles.
- Stay on the platform. Keep conversations on Kythr until you feel comfortable. Fraudulent users often try to move chats to private messaging apps early on.
- Be wary of scams. Be cautious of anyone who avoids video calls, refuses to meet in person, or rushes into a relationship.
- Report suspicious behavior. Block and report anyone who violates our guidelines, including requests for money or donations, anyone who appears to be under 18, harassment, threats, or abusive messages, fraudulent profiles, and spam or solicitation.
